HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

The course provides the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

Those workers who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings would benefit most from this training.

Course duration
Face-to-face: 3 hours
Blended: 2 hours
Refresher: 2 hours

Statement of assessment:
Performance tasks and Practical scenarios:
Perform CPR on an infant
Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED)
Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. The student must successfully complete all assessment questions.

Entry requirements:
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support

The HLTAID010 provides students with the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

As with HLTAID009, this unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Course duration:
Face-to-face: 4 hours
Blended: 3 hours
Refresher: 3 hours

Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED)
Breathing difficulties – Asthma
Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction)
Choking with airway obstruction

HLTAID011 - Provide first aid

With this course, you will learn the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Face-to-face: 7.5 hours
Blended: 5.5 hours
Refresher: 5.5 hours

HLTAID012 - Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

Ideal for those working with babies and children, this course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.

The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

Course duration:
Face-to-face: 8 hours
Blended: 6 hours
Refresher: 6 hours

Statement of assessment:
Perform CPR on an infant
Perform CPR on a child (incl. the use of an AED)
Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED)
Breathing difficulties – Asthma
Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction)
Choking with airway obstruction
Head injury/ Unconscious breathing casualty
Bleeding and shock
Snake or funnel-web spider bite
Sprains and fractures
Seizures and epilepsy, including febrile convulsions
Poisoning and toxic substances
Documentation - The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:
Incident report forms
Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
